The Agonian Alumnae Association (AAA) was founded in 1976 by Sue Wajda ’74. The goal was to keep our network of alumnae connected over the years.
The AAA is comprised of a President, a Vice President, a Treasurer and a Communications Director.
Primary duties of the AAA are:
- To maintain a database of contact information for alumnae of the Agonian Sorority.
- To organize and plan activities for Agonian alumnae when they return for Alumni Reunion.
- To create an annual newsletter (The Ago Anchor) to keep alumnae apprised of alumnae news and alumnae events.
- To present an annual scholarship to an Active Agonian student in Potsdam, NY
- To raise money to fund the above initiatives as well as working in concert with the Agonian Sorority Board to promote their fundraising goals.
- To connect alumnae through technology (email, social media).
The Alumni Association is always looking for talent. We all know the saying that “many hands make light work”, and that is especially true with the AAA. We are always looking for alumnae of all ages to volunteer to make the work lighter. Some jobs require significant time on a regular schedule, others involve a great deal of time for a very short duration, while others are sporadic and only take minimal time. There are jobs to fit everyone.
Ways that you can volunteer to help the Agonian Alumnae Association:
- Volunteer to be a Class Rep. This involves communicating with your graduating class a couple of times a year to get updates on their contact information and gather news for the news letter.
- Do you have social media expertise? We are currently only scratching the surface with our social media accounts. Can you help?
- No time to give? Pay your dues to help fund the newsletter, scholarships and other little costs like postage, snacks at functions, etc.
- Do you know WordPress or some other web creation software? We are always looking for ladies with expertise to help us maintain our online presence.
- Come up to reunion and bring some snacks to share.
- Organize your class on a milestone anniversary year. Convince your class to sponsor one of the events at the house or to sponsor a gift to the house.
- Top notch editing skills? Volunteer to help put together, or even just proof-read the Ago Anchor. We can use help gathering ideas for articles during the year, or just seasonal help to put it together in January/February.
- Enjoy community service? The AAA sponsors a couple of community service projects and would love sisters to join in the effort.
- Join the Scholarship Committee. It is a short obligation, once a year to review applications and recommend an award.
- Host a regional gathering. We can help you contact your “target audience” (geographical region and age range). You don’t even have to host in your own home. You could just invite a group of alumnae to a local cafe or brewery.
- Live near Potsdam? Attend some of the local events of the Active members (bid day, initiation, etc.) These events are often announced in our alumnae Facebook group.
The seas we sail are challenging and to stay on our Agonic course, we need more hands with different talents on deck. We hope you will keep us out of dry dock and at least ask any of us about a possible interest of yours.
WELCOME ABOARD!
